Today marks the release of L2′s 2012 Digital IQ Index®: Specialty Retail report. For the third straight year, we have benchmarked the digital competence of the world’s most prestigious retailers–as well as provided insight into the future of this vertical. In this report, we crown two digital Geniuses, profile a variety of brand success stories (“Flashes of Genius”) from the past year, and rank 76 global retailers according to 675 data points across four digital dimensions: Site, Digital Marketing, Social Media, and Mobile.
This year’s top 10 are shown below:
Among the most significant findings in this year’s study were the critical importance of mobile (the fastest growing commerce channel in history), the broadening role of Amazon (particularly in the luxury space), and the continued digital dominance of department stores (five of the top 10 performers fall into this category). Also of note, for the first time, we found a statistically significant relationship between the size of a retailer’s online business and their Digital IQ.
